The Year To Change, Welcome to Now
You've Never Known Irritation Until Its You Causing It
Today, I became utterly disgusted with myself. At midnight Monday, I knew the very large tasks I had to accomplish by 4:30. But then again, I knew two weeks ago what I had to do Monday. I knew how crucial it was to be focused but let the nerves of a near death (let me tell it) experience get the best of me. And who isn't shaken up after strangers try to pull you out of a car? But guess who (or what) doesn't care about how shaken we are? Bills, deadlines, and landlords. I don't know about yours, but the lady I pay rent cares only that she is paid sans excuses. This is my issue until I purchase a property with cash #goals So then why did I waste such precious time today? Seconds ticked away relentlessly right along with thousands upon thousands upon years of programmatic dollars that Memphis youth so dearly need. As time hurried along, I began to get overwhelmed caught up in how "this isn't my strength" moments coupled with new obstacle, on top of random challenge, on top of red tape until, tick, tick, tick, 4:30 pm came and went. 3 deadlines missed. Granted, I could have been more prepared. I didn't know until Sunday that I'd have to line up an additional contract, and quickly, in order to complete all 4:30 Monday tasks. Honestly, it's almost 11 pm as I'm writing this and I'm almost certain I have a midnight deadline...Dlol (that means don't lol)
But this is the last day of this nonsense! I'm tired of giving the excuse that organization isn't my strong suit. I'll acknowledge that me working as a contractor has hindered me a bit to spoiled Educating Artist status. For years, I only had to show up in the classroom or on stage, while someone in some other city did all the uncomfortable negotiating, grant writing, and even scheduled appearances if I asked him to, that life was great! Bonus! He was an excellent negotiator that was comfortable talking about money. He always seemed to be able to talk about numbers and get the pay in one meeting that I wouldn't have even dreamed of asking for. But, in order to grow, all those things I HATED DOING, I am forced to do. If I don't do them, then I am forced to face the reality that I need to LEARN to do them and NOW.
Hello Faced Reality!
Recently I've become seriously backlogged with multiple organizations, people, and companies requesting humongous tasks that you wouldn't typically ask someone who is NOT supremely organized to do. I like to call this #StartUpProblems Apparently new formations move really fast in the beginning, that's called #RapidGrowth I'm not even sure how I've mustered all this business attention but If I get too overwhelmed, and especially if I feel this task may distract me from my own programming goals, I get a bit flustered. I may even disappear for a second with full intent to return. but then, life happens and those seconds turn to 3 months later and I'm all "Ohhhhh yeah, let me check on the organization that wanted to speak in Canada last season. Guys, really. It gets bad with so much to juggle. I said months ago that I was not ready for this time in my life, and I was right. I wasn't. But now, I know what I must do. #GetReady #Organization
Consulting The Super Professionals In #StartUpWorld
A Start Up Business Consultant once advised that I was intended to function this way. That I needed people with strengths opposite of mine to effectively run what he believed could be wildly successful ventures. A tripod, he said, would be needed to hold me up. That's 3 strong people with varied and specific skill sets (for each separate venture might I add). Or, I could never ever sleep and maybe manage half of what I'd like to successfully. Literally, this was his advice. First, I tried the not sleeping thing but thought it dangerous to nod off at red lights so whats a third option?
The Business Sage Advises Time Management
His first advice to me was that I put EVERYTHING I had to do in my phone. Wash face: 6:30 alarm, 6:15 reminder. Walk out door: 7:30 alarm with a 7:15 reminder. Drive away: 7:32 alarm, 7:31 reminder. He said I should allow technology to be my personal assistant. So, ... tomorrow's post(s) will include updates on how it's going writing down EVERYTHING I have to do in my phone. And I mean everything. I'll add one thing a day to my routine and if it works for me, I'll stick with it for the entire 30 days. I totally know this works because I stopped drinking 30 days once which turned into moooooonnnnnnntttttss. Now I don't have a true taste for liquor which gets annoying when I tire of being "the boring person" in social settings. And I am NOT boring, I'm a blast! And when I get everything I need to get accomplished done, the world will be a better place.
You've always wanted to give life changing advice. Here's your chance!
Some people admirably practice yoga everyday, followed by an AM tea and a light morning read. Others may start their mornings with a small breakfast and morning walks before coming back in to check emails and plan their day. And then, there are those that put sticky notes everywhere all day and got it together, no calendar needed! But what do you do? What routines have worked for you?Are there any things you live by that bring you peace, a clear mind and organization that you can take a second to share? Have you ever been so behind that you it seems impossible to catch up? What did you do to fix your life as a result? Not enough questions for you? Then tell me, what one thing would you suggest to someone extremely passionate and driven (but slightly in need of a pocket assistant) to add to their daily life? If I take your advice, use it, it works for me, and I become a millionaire then I will certainly take you to lunch in gratitude, haha.
